Brewster Yoga & Massage

Studio hours this weekend:
Saturday & Sunday 11am - 4pm
October 17, 2009
Namaste,

Fall is upon us and I hope you find time to enjoy its many beautiful colors.

We at BYM are committed to helping you take the best care of yourself. Many have spent the past several months welcoming all the tourists, yet we are now given the opportunity to work deeply in our practice of Yoga.

Take time to begin or renew your practice. Spend time with Kim, Ed, or Judy to learn how therapeutic yoga can be. Feel great in Aisling's Pilates class, or let loose in Keelia's Tribal Belly Dance! Why not come and enjoy a massage with us (Basalt Hot Stone and Oil massage anyone?)- we have reduced our massage rates so that you can enjoy these treatments. Help us grow and you will receive a free massage. Join our Referral Program.

We're offering a free Herbal Circle Class Friday, the 23rd at 5pm to discuss Winter Wellness/Immune Support with Kari, our Herbalist. And you are welcome to visit the studio anytime and learn ways to strengthen your immune system no matter what fears about a flu come our way. Trust that you have the ability to keep your mind, body, and spirit healthy and that healing can occur through many non-invasive wise ways, and often simply in the stillness that happens during Yoga.

November starts our relationship with Emerson Ecologics. We're going to offer you convenience and a consistent discount when you order through our site. I'm a stickler for quality and effectiveness in products - Emerson simply offers some of what I consider the best.

Next month, we'll offer Asanas that can help if you get a cold. There are some great postures to help keep your Chi flowing, which creates ease in the body (the opposite of dis-ease).
Aside from our regular classes, we offer our popular and fun (really!) 'Open Your Hips' seminar, Beginner's Yoga seminar, and another Hike and Yoga session in November. Please visit our seminar page for descriptions.

Thank you for continuing to share in the creation of our sacred space in Brewster.

With Love,
Kim Hudson

Dandy Blend is available at the studio. It is a delicious Healthy Herbal Coffee Substitute. Kim drinks it daily...

Tastes like coffee but has no caffeine
no acidity or bitterness
sweetened with its own built-In fructose
contains all the goodness of dandelions
delicious iced
dissolves instantly in hot or cold water
can be used in any recipe which calls for instant coffee
Blend instant dandelion beverage is the only herbal coffee substitute in the United States that features both the health benefits of dandelion and the rich, full-bodied flavor, smoothness and texture of real coffee. Many say that, because it lacks bitterness and acidity, it actually tastes better than coffee.

A Most Versatile BeverageOne level teaspoon in eight ounces of water makes a delightful dandelion tea. A rounded teaspoon makes a beverage very similar to a full-bodied cup of instant coffee, and a heaping teaspoon to a full tablespoon makes an exquisite espresso-style beverage. It is so versatile that any type of gourmet coffee beverage made from it is virtually indistinguishable from the real thing, and it can be used in any recipe requiring coffee as an ingredient. Dandy Blend tastes great served iced or hot, and dissolves instantly in both hot or cold liquids. This delicious herbal coffee is especially good made with milk or dairy alternatives and your favorite flavorings. Those using it to wean themselves from coffee report that the transition is seamless- no headaches, upset stomachs, jitters or other symptoms of withdrawal.

The ConstituentsDandy Blend is made from the totally water-soluble extracts of three roasted herb roots: dandelion, chicory and sugar beet- and two roasted grains - barley and rye. Nothing other than extracts of the three roasted roots and two roasted grains is in Dandy Blend. It is naturally sweetened by the fructose released from the breakdown of the storage starch inulin when the dandelion and chicory roots are roasted. Because all sweetening comes from substances in the roots, Dandy Blend is a low carbohydrate beverage, with only 1 gram of carbohydrate per cup. All ingredients have been chosen because of the health benefits historically associated with them. Every cup contains 630 mg. of dandelion and chicory extract. In Dandy Blend, you are getting the best of all worlds! Nothing compares with it in flavor, ease of use, and health-promoting effectiveness. Try it, you'll like it.

"Of all the coffee substitutes out there, I like DandyBlend the best. I think it is more effective than the other barley-based beverages because it has that little kick of dandelion." - Joyce Wardwell, author of The Herbal Home Remedy Book "DandyBlend is one of the most delicious ways to take dandelion root. Roasted dandelion roots seem to have an almost indefinite shelf life, and give a wonderful boost." - Dr. Ryan Drum, Owner, Island Herbs, Waldron Island, WA.

"DandyBlend is one of the few coffee substitute blends on the market which actually tastes better than coffee. Not only is it wonderful tasting, but drinking it also provides substantial health-promoting benefits which, of course, coffee doesn't have."- David Winston, Founder of Herbalist and Alchemist, Inc., Washington, NJ.

Another year gone, leaving everywhere
its rich spiced residues: vines, leaves,
the uneaten fruits crumbling damplyin the shadows,
unmattering backfrom the particular island
of this summer, this NOW, that now is nowhere
except underfoot, molderingin that black subterranean castle
of unobservable mysteries - roots and sealed seeds
and the wanderings of water. This
I try to remember when time's measure
painfully chafes, for instance when autumn
flares out at the last, boisterous and like us longing
to stay - how everything lives, shifting
from one bright vision to another, forever
in these momentary pastures.

Yoga Hike

The Peace of Wild Things
When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children's lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water,
and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought of grief.
I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind starswaiting with their light.
For a time, I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.
--- Mary Oliver
We begin with a meditation and gentle stretch. Our hike is a moderate one and may be a combination of paved and unpaved trails for just over an hour at a comfortable pace. We will observe a peaceful and reflective walk. Please limit social talking so that we become more intimate with the beautiful sounds of the woods. Our hike is followed with a deep yoga session (suitable for those new to yoga) that will stretch and open those legs and hips. Good walking shoes or hiking boots are suggested.Sunday, October 11th @ 9am - 11:30. $20 preregistered. Rain date Sunday, Otober 18th. Location shared when you register.

Restorative Yoga

Effortlessly you are draped over soft cushions and blankets.Feel supported as you let go of layers of fatigue.Kim is your guide into relaxed awareness, soothing breathe and deep meditation.Enter the stillness.

I've had some questions regarding Restorative practice and hope to clarify that with a few words.
This practice is suitable for anyone who wants to heal from stress, injury or illness. Not just for recovery, We all need to take time to restore, in fact, the body will take the time if we don't. Ever get run down and catch the latest bug going around? That's the body choosing restorative practices. Rest, liquids, some quiet time, and eventually we're back in action.
If we regularly spend time refilling the well, we'll feel better, and have more energy, a stronger immune system, and be generally more satisfied with our lives and relationships. Mainly because we have more to share. Learn a few postures to practice often. Previous yoga experience is not required. Our restorative Yoga class last session was full-up, and by special request, we're having another on Sunday October 25th, 10am - noon. There was a waiting list last month, so sign up right away $20 preregistered or $25 at the door.

Meanwhile, the 'Open Your Hips' seminar is this Sunday from 10am-noon. There are a few spaces left. Please call the studio to preregister. This seminar addresses problems related to tight hips, including issues with the lower back and knees.
